I have a confession to make. I have never written a blog before, never really read a blog before and never really understood what blogs really were. Yet, here I am and writing my first blog for our website. Scary stuff!
Everyone told us when we said we were writing a book, you have to write a blog and you have to have a website. Our book had started out as a small little side project that amused us. We were not planning on having a website or writing a blog, but as things progressed we started to warm up to the idea. We were already planning a huge grass roots marketing campaign (At current count our marketing plan is 21 pages – my former marketing colleague TST would be so proud!). We could do this website thing and have a blog. The website story is for another day…
So how to start? Well, I did what I always do when confronted with something new – I researched. Being formally trained as a CPA and being extremely organized and detail-oriented (In other words “anal”), this only made sense to me. So I researched blogs, what they are and how to write them and read other people’s blogs. The best article I found was here: Intro to Blogging. There is a lot of useful information in this article; however, while this was very helpful, I still did not know what to write about. As I tend to be a more introverted person, writing a personal account of anything was going to be a challenge. Although ever since I became a first-time pet guardian, I have found myself becoming more extroverted. How can you not stop and talk to a person with a cute dog and swap stories?
So my co-author and I decided we would lay out our blog as follows: Carey and I would blog about our journey into our second careers as authors and our VERY steep learning curve in publishing, marketing and websites. We will also share our own brand of humor in observations of daily life. Bear with us as we find our voice. Our dogs, Max and Luther, will also blog about their lives and various opinions on people and the crazy things they do. I hope you enjoy sharing in our adventure.
So I embraced the blog, how did I do?
