I have told you previously about some of my quirky car habits but I have not described my road trip behavior. Mom and I, with our friends, Carey and Luther have been on a number of road trips lately promoting our book “True Tails from the Dog Park”. I know that Mom was worried about how I would do on these car trips due to my bad car behavior driving here in town. I don’t know why she was worried, I love road trips!
I do have some rules though. I have to see where we are going. Let’s chalk that up to the fact that I am an extremely curious dog. I like to sprawl out between the front and back seats Sphinx like. Luther is always passed out in the back seat. I don’t think he cares where we are going as long as he is with his Mom. Occasionally, I want to snuggle as well so I put my muzzle in the crink of the driver’s arm. I consider this very charming and it does not impede the driver’s ability to drive. The funny part is that I don’t care who is driving; I will do it to Mom or Aunt Carey, it just depends on who is driving. As I usually just want my Mom this is quite unusual.
Sometimes I get impatient and want to be in the front seat so I worm my way through the opening and crawl onto Mom’s lap in the passenger seat. (Aunt Carey is usually our designated driver). I like to look out the front window and see where we are going. Once I am on my Mom’s lap, I settle down and watch the world go by. Aunt Carey likes to drive fast which is great! When I get tired, I sprawl out on Mom’s lap and place my head near the gear shift and fall asleep. Mom always takes a picture of me when I do this so I am guessing that I look adorable! By the way, did I mention I know how to change the channel on the radio? Sometimes I get tired of listening to the hard rock station Aunt Carey likes so I switch it to the 80’s station that Mom likes. This always makes Mom laugh and say good boy! I always know when we are getting close to our destination (the car slows down) which I mark by barking in in anticipation and annoys Mom to no end. How else am I going to tell her I want to go with her when we get there?
As the gang has a number of events coming up, I am anticipating taking a number of new road trips in the future. If you see me in the front seat watching where we are going, give me a shoot out!
