You would not believe the conversation I overheard at the dog park the other day. A woman was telling my Mom about her one year old Lab who was still having accidents in the house. She said that she showed her dog where she was supposed to poop once and for some reason her Lab would not use that spot. Really? I know Labs are smart, but I don’t think any dog could be housebroken in one try. Housebreaking dogs can be hard! The woman went on to say that the Lab’s poop was not that hard to clean up so she just does it. Are you kidding me? My Mom would never allow that, and I mean NEVER!
When I was a little (well maybe not so little!) puppy, I was put into my crate if there was no one able to keep an eye on me. Before I went into my crate and when I came out of my crate, it was potty time outside. When I was allowed to be out of the crate, my Mom always kept an eye on me so that if I looked like I needed to go potty, I was out the door in a flash! Let me tell you, I was outside a lot! Every time I did my business, my Mom gave me a treat. I loved those treats so much that I was housebroken in about a week. Now, I know that it did not happen in one day, but I think a week is pretty good.
I am not sure how this Lab still does not understand that potty time should be outside the house, not inside but I am sure glad I don’t live in that house!
