Exercising your human is an important daily activity. I think one of the main reasons that my mom decided to get a dog was to have someone to walk with. Walking is her favorite form of exercise as it is low impact to her increasingly aging body and it also gives her an opportunity to have time to just think. She would never admit this, but she really likes to look at all the houses in the neighborhood and check out the latest remodels. Mom is always dreaming of the day that we own our own place (I would love a background of my own!). Her best ideas come when we are out on our daily walk. Mom has begun to layout our third Max and Luther book in her head – she already has the cover in mind! (Dog butts on the back cover of course!).
I too enjoy our daily walks. As I am part Beagle, half of the fun of walking is checking out all the smells. It goes without saying that our daily walk is required because I am a very active dog and need to have A LOT of exercise! I also love the fact that I know most of the dogs in our neighborhood and enjoy greeting each and every one that we meet along the way. In fact, I am always a little hurt when a dog does not stop and say hi to me!
Mom and I also enjoy doing all the walks for charities that we have around San Diego. This Thanksgiving we are doing a 5k walk for Animal Rescuers without Borders (ARWOB) sponsored by our friends at Leash Your Fitness. Perfect timing to help avoid those extra holiday calories…. It is so obvious that exercising with your dog is more fun than doing it alone. So as our friends at Leash Your Fitness say “Life is short, workout with your dog!”
