You know how dogs and their humans tend to mirror each other personalities? Well, I think this is true. I have noticed that I am becoming more like my Mom every day! For example, I am becoming very competitive and everyone in my family knows that Mom is SUPER competitive!
Last weekend, my Mom and I participated in the 5K Walk for Animals benefiting the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. It was held at the Encinitas Botanical Gardens which was such a cool venue. Mom and I enjoyed the walk (I especially loved all the different smells!) But I digress, at this event there was also fun vendors (free treats!) and contests. Mom decided to sign me up for the dog contest which involved peanut butter! As she thinks that I am “chow hound”, this would be the perfect dog contest for me. I can eat my dinner in 5 seconds flat! For the dog contest, they divided us dogs into small and large categories which meant they put me in the small dog group. I didn’t quite get that as I am a “healthy” 32 pound dog with a 200 pound personality! Be that as it may, I thought for sure I was a lock on first place. I know that Mom was eyeing the gift basket as if it was a done deal.
I watched the large dog round with interest as my buddy Luther was competing in that group. Luther was pretty funny as most of the peanut butter went around his mouth instead of in his mouth! I definitely can do better than that. When my turn came up, I was very excited. I have never had peanut butter before as my Mom does not typically let me have any people food. The contest began and I was in heaven eating all that yummy peanut butter. Next thing I knew it was over and I was tied for first place with a little wiener dog. What? That did not seem possible! So there was a run-off for first place with cream cheese instead of peanut butter (still pretty good to me!). The whistle blew and we were off. I quickly made the cream cheese on the spoon disappear but alas the judges say I lost by a single lick! I couldn’t believe it, I was so disappointed. I think that Mom was in shock too!
I am really not sure that I wasn’t robbed in this competition. I would definitely like a rematch one day!
