This past weekend my Mom, Kari and Max went to the Doggie Street Festival in L.A. As the weather was extremely hot, it was decided that I would go spend some time at my trainer’s house instead or what my Mom started calling “Dog Boot Camp”. (I did not like the sound of that at all!) As I have been acting up lately, Mom was hoping that a few days with my trainer would help whip me into shape. What my Mom did not realize is that when I am there, I am on my best behavior. The trainer actually even texted my Mom that I was a “perfect angel” during my stay there!
Let me describe to you my time at the trainer’s house – think slumber party instead of boot camp. The trainer has three dogs of her own in addition to her daycare clients. There was never a dull moment as the dogs outnumbered the humans in this house! Some of our activities included swimming in the pool, playing soccer and hunting gophers in the yard. (Max would have loved that!). Since I am a Bulldog, swimming was out so I thought I would try my paw at soccer. Now on the surface, soccer seems to be a simple game: kick the ball and then chase it down; however, my huge paws kept getting in the way. As I approached the soccer ball, my paws would get in the way and the ball kept being just out of reach… Well I wore myself out trying to catch up with the ball and forget trying to pass the ball to the other dogs. Sometimes having such big paws is a pain! Needless to say, the soccer game did not last long and I was pretty tired after all that activity.
Next on the agenda: Dog TV! I do not get this channel at home. What a perfect activity for a Bulldog: lying in front of the television and relaxing. Dog TV is a channel designed specifically for us dogs. It has special content geared towards our sense of vision, hearing and behavior patterns and is said to create a stress free atmosphere. I am here to tell you it works! I was very happy and stress free lounging in front of the television.
Naturally my favorite activity is naptime. The trainer gave us frozen marrow bones to snack on in our crates. I chewed on the bone and snoozed…heaven! It doesn’t get much better than this. Well, if this is the definition of boot camp then I will gladly come back anytime. I have a suspicion that my Mom’s definition of boot camp is different than mine. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her! It did occur to me that if I behaved like this at home, I might have a shot at these activities at home. Let me sleep on this…….
