Recently I have been very reflective and realized that I there have been lessons learned from my dogs, Luther and Earl.
Luther is so silly, a happy go-lucky fellow who believes he can do anything. He watched his best friend Max climb onto a picnic table and thought man I can could that too! After a month of trying to accomplish this task, he finally figured out how to do it. While he is by no means as agile as Max, Luther continued to try and he didn’t give up. When he finally made it on top of the table, he was so proud. Luther’s persistence was so admirable that he inspired me to take a leap into the unknown. Because of him, I have written a book, learned and embraced social media, all while gaining confidence in my abilities and having fun! These were lessons well worth learning.
Earl, on the other hand, has taught me resilience. He is such a trooper. No matter what the situation, he makes the best of it. Some days he isn’t as thrilled to go to the dog park as Luther, but he goes with us, hangs out with everyone, greets everybody and when we get home, rejoices in the comfort of the couch. Earl and I are very similar in that aspect; we like to go out and meet people, but love to come back to the comforts of home. Earl rarely gets angry, but knows when to stand up for himself. He is so wise for his age.
I am so thankful for my boys and the lessons they have taught me. We would all benefit for approaching life like our dogs do: love everyone, have fun and appreciate the comforts of home.
