Dog birthdays around our house are a big deal. I can’t believe Luther had his birthday last week. 2014 has flown by and my baby Lou is two years old. There are several things I am grateful for with Luther coming of age. First, his bedtime tantrums have dissipated: no more tackling him and waiting until he calms down. Those tantrums lasted up to half an hour! It was exhausting. Second, Luther no longer feels the need to chew on me; he now prefers his bones or his brother, Earl. My fingers and toes are very relieved! Third, Luther is finally sleeping through the night. Gone are the 2 am wake-up calls: “It’s playtime, everyone wake up!” His brother Earl and I are very relieved that our “midnight madness” has passed. Finally, Luther and his brother Earl are working through their sibling rivalry. While things are not perfect yet, both boys are maturing and their squabbles have become fewer and far between.
Luther is turning into a well-behaved boy (as well as handsome!) and I could not be more pleased. He has adjusted well to all of the new activities that are associated with marketing his book: long car trips, long days meeting new people, and strange new stores. He still tries to hide under the table occasionally but we think it is charming! Most of the time Luther takes on his role as co-author like a pro which consists of greeting his fans, posing for pictures and allowing lots of petting!
I could not imagine having embarked on this adventure with the Luther of a year ago that would have been a challenge far greater than I could have met! Even though I sometimes miss some of the cute puppy shenanigans, I am so very proud of my two–year-old Lou!
